Work Stoppage Resources
Dear Peary families,
Possible Work Stoppage
On Wednesday, the union representing District support staff such as custodians, aides, bus drivers and cafeteria workers, SEIU Local 99, announced a three-day strike beginning Tuesday, March 21 to Thursday, March 23. The union representing our teachers and other instructional and mental health staff, United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA), has advised their members to support their SEIU colleagues, which means teachers may not be available to provide classroom instruction.
Possible School Closure for students
If the strike moves forward as our labor partners have indicated, Peary Middle School will most likely be closed to students from March 21 to March 23.
We are preparing materials to ensure student learning continues. Your child should have a working device. Students will also receive a learning packet which will include standards-based grade level activities.
We will host virtual office hours on the stoppage days where students can receive help with accessing Schoology, completing work independently and technical support with their devices. You may also call our main office for device and password issues or, if needed, to pick up a learning packet.
A section of the Peary website is now dedicated to providing updates to information and resources for families should the strike occur and/or our school becomes closed to students.
Please stay connected by visiting our website daily or call (310) 225-4200.
You may also visit school updates or call the district's the dedicated hotline at (213) 443-1300 for additional resources, including information on student supervision, student meals via limited Grab & Go sites, the Family and Student Resource Guide, tutoring programs and a list of free museums.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
