- On Tuesday at 6pm we will host the 8th grade Awards night.

- Please join us on Thursday at 6 pm in the Auditorium for Peary Music Program’s Spring Concert Event with performances from Peary’s Band, Choir and a special Visual Arts presentation.
- On Friday, all 8th grade students will return their History Textbook, Chromebook and charger.
- The 8th Grade Spring Dance will also be held on Friday, on campus, from 3:30-6:00 pm.

Hello Peary Family,
- Our Word of the Week (WOW) is APPRECIATION: the recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something. Being told you're appreciated is one of the simplest and most uplifting things you can hear.
- May is Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month.
- This week is Classified School Employee Appreciation Week. To the team of individuals who keep our school running including educator assistants, custodial staff, campus supervision, cafeteria workers, office staff and all other classified employees, we say, Thank You, for all that you do!
- Monday, Wednesday and Friday will be on the A-Schedule. Tuesday and Thursday will be on the B-Schedule.
- Students will take the Math SBAC test this week. Please encourage your child to get a good night's sleep, eat something for breakfast, bring a fully charged device, and arrive at school before 8:00 AM to ensure they can give their absolute best effort!
- The 8th Grade Gardena Bowling event will take place on Tuesday, 2:30-5:00 pm.
- Region South will be hosting a Summer of Learning Webinar on Tuesday from 4:00pm - 5:30pm for families to learn about all of the many options available for students during the summer. Click here to join this meeting or the link can also be found on the Peary Website.
- English Language Advisory Council (ELAC) will meet on Wednesday at 9 am in the Parent Center.
- Shared Decision-Making Committee (SDMC) will meet via Zoom on Thursday at 3:30pm. A link to join this meeting can be found on the Peary Website.

- Our Word of the Week (WOW) is INITIATIVE: taking action; originating new ideas. Initiative is about taking the first step, even when you don't see the whole staircase. - Martin Luther King Jr
- This week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday will be on the B-Schedule. Tuesday and Thursday will be on the A-Schedule.
- Monday is Tie Day. Students and staff are encouraged to wear a tie or bow tie in support of anti-bullying and a drama-free school environment.
- After school tutoring and homework help will be on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:15-4:15 pm.
- We will conduct an emergency drill on Thursday during period 1.
- The College Bound Program will meet on Thursday from 3:15 pm - 5:45 pm.
- There will be a GATE Parent Meeting on Thursday at 3:30 pm.
- Please join us at Peary on Thursday from 4 pm to 6 pm for our Open House Family Fun Night Event. Students will showcase their work and accompilshments with family and guests. There will also be games, activities, and prizes for everyone.
- We will hold an 8th grade presentation on Thursday at 6:00 pm in Stephan Hall where you can get answers to your questions regarding culmination, class dues, and 8th grade activities.
- On Friday, school will dismiss at 1:00 pm. Happy Cinco de Mayo!
- Saturday, 8:00am- 12:20pm, will be the last session of Saturday School for the Spring Semester.
- Saturday is also the 167th birthday of our schools namesake Robert E. Peary. He is known for leading the first expedition to the North Pole and for his famous statement; I will find a way, or make one.

This is an important update to This Week at Peary.
- Please join us in the Peary Gym on Thursday evening, April 20 at 5:30 pm for the Anti-4/20 Community Event called Healthy Living Palooza. This event is sponsored by the City of Gardena and aims to promote drug-free living habits for our youth. Community agencies will be there to connect with families and provide information on the effects of marijuana usage, prevention and intervention. Please enter the campus near the Gym on 162nd Street for this event. We look forward to seeing you at Peary on Thursday evening.

- Due to the rain, the 8th grade panorama picture has been postponed. We will let everyone know once a new date has been confirmed.
- Peary’s Talent Show will now take place on Friday during lunch.
- A Parent Workshop on Substance Use Awareness will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 am in the Parent Center.

Teachers will evaluate student work submitted, based on the instructions and criteria given, and determine if a change in a student's grade is appropriate.

- Peary Middle School will participate in an earthquake drill on Thursday, October 20, during 2nd period. This drill, called The Great California Shake-Out, involves almost every school in California as well as businesses, organizations and families. This is an opportunity for Peary to practice what we should do during and after an earthquake. Please note that throughout the duration of the drill, parents will not be able to pick up or drop off students.
- Parents can also participate in the Shake-Out by discussing earthquake preparedness and planning your own drill with your family. More information is available at www.ShakeOut.org.

Week of August 29, 2022 - Update
Hello Peary Family,
- Thursday is Peary’s Back-To-School Night. At 4:00 pm, there will be a GATE parent meeting in Stephan Hall, followed by an 8th grade meeting at 4:30 pm.
- The Back-To-School event will take place from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Students and families will have the opportunity to visit their child’s teachers and learn more about the educational program at Peary Middle School. Masks are not required, but highly recommended while inside buildings and classrooms.
- Also remember that school will be closed on Friday and Monday in observance of Admissions and Labor Day.
- School will resume on Tuesday, September 6 at 7:50 am.
- Lastly, Picture day is next week on September 8th. Students are to wear a dark blue or white uniform shirt for their photo on picture day.

- This is our last week of SBAC Testing. Each day this week, from 8:00 am until 9:45 am, students will be able to complete their math assessment. Please have your child at school before 8:00 so that all students can experience a positive testing environment. Students who miss the testing session will participate in make-up testing on Fridays or during the first week of June. Students are encouraged to get a good night's sleep, eat something for breakfast, have a fully charged device, and arrive before 8:00 AM to ensure they can give their absolute best effort!

For those who are not attending Saturday School, we invite you to join us at Gardena's Martin Luther King Parade and Celebration on Saturday morning. The Parade will begin at 10:00am. However, students and families can join Peary in the parade line up if they arrive by 8:00 am.

Update to This Week at Peary
Hello Peary Family,
- Happy Veterans Day! School will be closed on Thursday, November 11 in honor of the many men and women who ultimately sacrificed to defend our country.
- Friday is a regular school day. Let's keep up our attendance and improve our chances to win the November Attendance Challenge.
- Has your child age 12 and above been vaccinated? Well, they can get vaccinated at Peary Middle School on November 19th, 2021 from 12:00 to 7:00pm. The first 100 students who receive the vaccination or upload their vaccination card will receive a gift card for groceries. Food from the food truck will be provided and there will be plenty of music. Consent forms and healthcare questionnaire will be sent home.Walk-ins wil be welcomed but to avoid waiting in line, go to LAUSD daily pass and schedule your child’s vaccination appointment for Friday, November 19, 2021 at Peary Middle School.
- Tutoring will continue on Saturday from 8:00 am - 12:20 pm. Students should enter the main gate with their mask, computer, and daily pass.

This Weekend Update
Hello Peary Family,
COVID Vaccination on Campus TODAY!
Peary Middle School is hosting a vaccination event today. If your child has not been vaccinated and you want your child to be vaccinated, please come up to the school as soon as possible today before 7pm and your child will be vaccinated with your consent and get a free meal from the food truck. If your child is already vaccinated, please upload the vaccination card into the parent portal. If you do not know how to upload the vaccination card, we will have a drive at the school next week Saturday, Nov. 6th. Be on the look out for more information.
Saturday Academy 8am-12:20 pm
Saturday Academy tutoring will begin tomorrow! Classes begin at 8am and end at 12:20pm with two hours of math, two hours of English and a 20-minute break in between. Students participating in Saturday School should bring their device and enter campus at the Main Gate off Gardena Boulevard.

- Join us this week for the Labor Day Attendance challenge. Students and staff who attend school everyday this week will be entered into a drawing for a prize.
- On Tuesday, and every Tuesday, school will dismiss at 1:20 pm.
- On campus COVID Testing will take place at Peary, every Wednesday between 8 and 2:30 pm.

- This Wednesday is Peary’s Virtual Back to School Night from 5 – 7 pm! Parents and families will have the opportunity to virtually meet their child’s teachers and learn more about the educational program at Peary Middle School. - Congratulations on completing the first week of school. Our Word of the Week (WOW) is SELF-DISCIPLINE: the ability to choose and control one's own actions. Once a task has begun, never quit until it's done. Be the labor great or small, do it well and do it all.
- On Tuesday, and every Tuesday, school will dismiss at 1:20 pm.
- On Campus COVID Testing will take place on Wednesday 8:00 am – 2:30 pm. Students who attended school last Wednesday but did not complete a COVID test will be allowed on campus this week and be given testing priority for this Wednesday’s testing session.
- Students and staff are required to wear a mask that covers their mouth and nose; except when eating, sanitize hands before leaving a classroom and maintain appropriate social distance with others on campus.

Hello Peary Family,
- Welcome Back to School and our first edition of This Week at Peary!

- We are looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow at 7:50 am.
- All students and staff should have a daily pass to enter campus tomorrow. Peary staff will be at grade level gates ready to scan student daily passes. 6th grade students will enter campus on the North side of 162ndStreet near the Peary Bridge. 7th Grade students will enter campus on the south side of 162nd Street near the Peary Gym. 8th Grade students will enter campus on Gardena Boulevard between the A and B Buildings. - When students enter the campus, they should find their name and 1st period room number on the scheduling board.
- Students will then line up with their 1st period class until the bell rings for class.
- On Monday, school will dismiss at 3:00 pm and students will exit from the same gates they used to enter campus.
