  • School will end early each day this week; Monday at 1:44 pm; Tuesday at 1:26 pm; Wednesday and Thursday 12:38 pm.
  • 8th grade Culmination will take place on Thursday, June 7 at 9:00 am at Gardena High School.
  • 6th and 7th Grade students, please see your counselor as soon as possible if you are interested in attending the ELOS summer school program from June 18 to July 13.
  • Our 175th day of school celebration was amazing! We thank our teachers, staff, students, parents and community partners for supporting our 8th grade student’s trip to Cabrillo Beach; hosting our 6th and 7th grade student’s College Awareness Carnival; and for helping us make the 2017/18 school year a great success! 
  • We can still achieve our attendance goal of 96% with your help. Please send your child to school everyday until June 7th.

  • Thank you to all who supported the Family Fun Night Open House event.  It was a great success because of teachers, staff, students, parents and community partners like you. 
  • On Friday, we will celebrate 175 days of school and 8th grade will have a picnic celebrating their success. 
  • There are still a few students who have not turned in their textbooks.  Textbooks will be collected in the textbook room, fifteen minutes before school and fifteen minutes after school on Monday and Wednesday.
  • We can still achieve our attendance goal of 96%. Please send your child to school everyday for the next 8 days until June 7th.

Peary Reminders

Hello Peary family,

 

This message is to remind everyone that:

  • School will dismiss early on May 25, 2018 at 12:38 pm.
  • Students who still have their textbooks will be able to turn them in before school 7:30 am to 7:50 am or after school from 12:38 pm to 1:00 pm.  
  • The last free on campus Tdap clinic will also take place at school 8:00 am – 12:00 pm
  • This is also the last day to turn in first priority summer school applications in the main office. 
  • School will be closed on Monday, May 28, 2018 to observe Memorial Day in honor of the many men and women who fought for our country.

Hello Peary family,

  • Please remind your child to return their textbooks to school this week on the day assigned their grade level.  8th grade will return their textbooks on Tuesday, 7th grade on Wednesday, and 6th grade on Thursday.  Textbooks will be collected primarily through student’s history class.
  • On Tuesday, Circle of Friends will host a campaign to end the use of the R-Word.
  • Coffee with the Superintendent, which will include a presentation by the Office of Civic Engagement on "Know Your Rights Information to Support Immigrant Families,” will be held on Tuesday at Fremont High School from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.
  • Please join us for Peary’s Family Fun Night/Open House on Wednesday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

  • Happy Birthday to Admiral Robert E. Peary!  Born on May 7, 1856, our namesake was a naval officer, civil engineer and an explorer.  He is best known for traveling to the North Pole in 1909. Happy Birthday Admiral Peary!

Hello Peary family,

  • There will be a free TDap Mobile Clinic on campus this Wednesday.  A parent/guardian must attend this clinic for their child to receive the vaccination.
  • Project READ will take students to visit Cal State University Long Beach on Wednesday.
  • Wednesday is also Demin Day, Administrative Professionals Day, and the 150th Day of school.  So wear jeans, thank an office staff member and pat yourself on the back for having made it to 150!
  • On Thursday, the Mobile Library will be out lunchtime, GATE students will visit the California Science Center, and School Site Council meets in the Parent Center at 4:00 pm.

Hello Peary family,

  • We hope you enjoyed your Spring Break.  School resumes tomorrow, Tuesday, April 3rd at 7:50 am.
  • The Wall That Heals Vietnam Veterans Memorial will parade by Peary Middle School on Tuesday at 11:00 am.  You are invited to join us on 162nd street to welcome and cheer as this mobile museum heads for the Gardena Civic Center. This exhibit will be open for public viewing at Mas Fukai Park through the weekend.
  • The book fair begins this week in the library.

  • Thursday is Career Day and the Read across Peary event.  Peary Parent Conference Event will also take place on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m.; followed by the Pin and Ribbon Ceremony.

  • We hope your winter break was fun and relaxing. Peary Middle School will reopen tomorrow, Monday January 8 at 7:50 am for the start of the 2018 Spring Semester.

  • If your 6th grade student completed their Tdap immunization clearance during the winter break, please send documentation to Peary’s Health Office.  If your 6th grade student has not completed the immunizations, please visit your primary health care provider or a neighborhood clinic as soon as possible to complete this 6th grade requirement.

Hello Peary Family,

  • Thank you to all students who participated in this month’s Garden Clean Up this past Saturday!
  • A Language Development Parent Workshop will be held on Tuesday at 8:30 am in Stephan hall. This workshop will be presented in Spanish.
  • Did you know that your child can take College Classes at Southwest College as a middle school student? An information session will be held on Tuesday at 3 pm in Stephan Hall regarding this Dual Enrollment program.  All parents are welcome to attend.
  • Holiday grams will be sold during lunch on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
  • The Peary Band will host its Holiday Concert on Thursday at 7 pm in the Auditorium.
  • On Friday there will be a celebration of student attendance during lunch.

This Saturday, December 2nd is eventful with our Garden Clean Up and Covered California has invited you to an information session.

The Garden Clean up will meet on at the Brighton entrance to the Garden at 8:00 a.m.  Remember to bring your community service form so that we can record and sign off on your hours.

Covered California Event: 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in room 1

  • If you or a family member does not have health insurance, please come and apply for free or low cost health insurance on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Peary Middle School from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in room 1.
  • Healthy Start, CHAMP and My Health LA Representatives will be available to help determine if you and your family qualify and will assist you in completing the application and any required documents.
  • Please bring proof of income, proof of address and a copy of your child’s birth certificate to the enrollment event.

  • This is a reminder that school will be closed this week for the Fall Break.   
  • Be sure to check your mail this week for the Peary Parent Involvement and School Compact.  Please take time to read over the documents to best understand the responsibilities of the entire learning community to aid and assist you child’s learning experience at Peary Middle School.

  • Have you completed your School Experience Survey?  Please remind your child to return your completed survey to the school before the deadline on Tuesday.
  • A parent workshop regarding the California Dashboard will be held this week; Spanish Only on Monday at 8:30 and English Only on Wednesday at 8:30 am in the Parent Center.
  • Did you know that your child can start getting college course credits now? Come to the Peary College Course Application Workshop to learn how this Tuesday at 1:45pm or on Wednesday at 3:00 pm in Stephan Hall. 
  • Nursing Services will offer a free on campus TDAP clinic on Thursday.  To have your child receive their TDAP vaccination on campus, please contact the school nurse or print and sign the parent consent form located on the Peary School Loop Website
  • The English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) Meeting will be held on Thursday at 8:30 in the parent center.

Hello Peary family,

  • Today marks the end of Daylight Saving Time where we "fall back." If you have not done so already, be sure to set your clocks back one hour.

  • Thursday is also the last day to apply to the Magnet Program for the 2018/19 School Year.

Hello Peary family,

  • Our Word of the Week (WOW) is FLEXIBILITY: The ability to make adjustments or alter plans. There are no victories without conflict; no rainbows without storms.
  • The Student Leadership Team has put together an awesome, frightful and fun haunted house.  Get your tickets before they sell out and the event is over on Tuesday.
  • Students are encouraged to wear a Career Costume to school on Halloween. This would be a costume that represents a career or job that they might like to have in the future. Masks, painted face, weapons and clowns of any sort are not permitted on campus.  A complete list of Costume Guidelines is available on the Peary school loop website. All other students should be in uniform
  • Peary’s first Breast Cancer Walk-A-Thon will take place on Wednesday afterschool on the PE Field.  We invite parents, family and friends to come and support our student’s commitment to their health.
  • A tour of the Peary Magnet School will take place at 8:30 am on both Tuesday and Thursday.
  • Please join us for Magnet High School Night on Thursday at 6:00 pm.  Come and learn about the high school options available for your child in LAUSD.
  • Red Ribbon continues this week and we encourage all families to log on to redribbon.org and complete The Pledge to help our children grow up safe, healthy and drug free.

Hello Peary family,

  • Our Word of the Week (WOW) is Patience: The ability to wait calmly. “Our patience will achieve more than our force.” - Edmond Burke
  • Please visit the Peary Book Fair all this week in the library!  This celebration of reading offers a great selection of affordable books, including the newest titles for every reading level, and much more!
  • After school intervention will begin this week.  This program will take place after school on Wednesdays and Thursdays with the purpose of building student’s critical thinking, reading comprehension, and problem solving skills in Math and English.  There are only a few seats left in the program and applications are available in the main office.
  • Thursday is our Parent Conference Event.  A special tour of our Magnet School will take place at 8:30 am.    The 8th grade parent meeting will start at 3:30 p.m. and Parent Conferences will take place between 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. We look forward to seeing all of our parents on Thursday.
  • This is Red Ribbon Week and we encourage all families to log on to redribbon.org and complete The Pledge to help our children grow up safe, healthy and drug free.

Back to School Night Events

Hello Peary Family,

This is a reminder of our Back to school Event tomorrow, Thursday August 31, 2017. 

There are four parts to this event.  

  1. An orientation of Peary decision making councils will take place at 8:30 am in Stephan Hall.
  2. There will be a GATE meeting at 4:15 pm in Stephan Hall.
  3. Back to School Night is 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
  4. Lastly, there will be an 8th grade meeting at 7:00 pm in the Auditorium.

We look forward to meeting with you and sharing the many things that are happening at Peary Middle School.  Also, school will be closed on Friday September 1 and Monday September 4.  School will reopen on Tuesday, September 5, 2017

Peary Update

Hello Peary Family,

Here a few updates to this weeks announcements.  

  • Uniform recycling begins tomorrow.  We are asking students to donate their collared shirts, shorts, pants and PE uniforms that they no longer have use for.  Students who donate will receive a uniform pass.  Students who donate more than four articles of acceptable clothing will also be entered into a raffle for a special prize.
  • Remember that school will end early this week. On Tuesday, as usual, at 1:26 p.m., and on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we will dismiss at 12:38 p.m.
  • Lastly,culmination will begin at 9:00 am on June 8th.

Hello Peary Family,

  • On Thursday from 9 am to 11 am we will host the Read Across Peary/Career Day.  Peary’s Teacher-Parent Conference Event will also happen on Thursday between 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • School will be closed on Friday March 31st in honor of a great American Leader, Cesar Chavez.

Fall Break

Hello Peary Family,

  • This is a reminder that school will be closed Monday, November 21 through Friday, November 25, 2016. School will resume on Monday, November 28, 2016.
  • Sixth grade parents, the fall and winter break is a great time to make an appointment for your child to receive the mandatory TDap vaccination.  All students are required to show proof of this immunization before moving on to 7th grade.

  • Today is the end of Daylight Savings time.  Therefore, if you haven’t done so already, please set your clocks back one hour.
  • ESL 1 classes are continuing on Tuesdays from 8:30 am to 10:30 am in the Parent Center.  Don’t miss out on this great class!  On Wednesdays, the beginning Computer classes will continue in Room 2 from 8:30 am to 10:30 am.  Both classes offer certificates for attending.
  • On Thursday, November 10th, School Site Council will meet at 3:05 pm in the Parent Center.  WE NEED YOUR PARTICIPATION!  School Site Council monitors our categorical budgets and programs, School Safety Plan, and ensures all federal parental involvement mandates are met.  Any Questions – please contact Mrs. Lydon in the Title 1 office.  PLEASE JOIN US ON THURSDAY!!!
  • Thursday is also the last day to turn in the LAUSD choices application.

  • Congratulations to all of our Students of the Month and our S.W.A.G. (Students With Awesome Grades) who were honored last week.
  • Thank to all of the parents who attended our Student of the Month assembly and Parent Conferences.  Parent participation is critical to the success of our children. 
  • Monday will be the last day to experience Student Leadership’s Haunted House. Great work Peary leaders!
  • Masks, face paint, clowns and fake or real weapons will not be accepted on campus. We encourage students to wear a Career Costume on October 31st.   • Wednesday we will host the Student of the Month and SWAG assembly for each grade level.
  • Thursday is our Parent Conference Event.  At 3 pm we are hosting a College and Career Readiness workshop for all parents.  The 8th grade parent meeting will start at 3:30 p.m. and Parent Conferences will take place between 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. We look forward to seeing all of our parents on Thursday evening. 
  • Friday is College Spirit Day! Students and staff are encouraged to wear their favorite college gear.

This Week at Peary Middle School

  • Gardena High School Counselors will be on campus on Monday to begin programming 8th graders for next year.
  • There are 3 Parent Workshops this week at 8:30 am in the parent center; ESL on Monday, Common Core on Wednesday, and ESL on Friday. 
  • Bus riders, there are no more Early Bus Tuesdays.  This means that every Tuesday through the end of the school year, the bus will pick you up from Peary at the regular dismissal time of 2:48 pm.  Please be sure to sign up in the afterschool program activities, or wait in the Igloo area where adult supervision will be provided.
  • Parent Conferences will be held on Thursday, April 7 from 4 pm to 6 pm.  These conferences allow parents to monitor the academic and social progress of your students and work with the teachers to develop a plan of action for improvement.  We look forward to seeing you on Thursday evening.
  • Friday April 8 is a Shortened Day. School will be dismissed at 1:44 pm.  However, school buses will pick students up from Peary at the regular dismissal time of 2:48 pm.

Week of December 14, 2015

  • Ipad distribution is in full effect.  We want to thank all staff, students and parents for your commitment to our Technology Initiative.  On select days this week, students will receive their device in homeroom only, and return them to a second homeroom session at the end of the school day.  Students are expected to follow the acceptable use and device policies presented in the agreement packets. 
  • Fall semester final report cards will be mailed on Friday, December 18th.  Parents, you should expect to receive them during the winter break.
  • Attention 6th grade families, the Tdap immunization is required before students enter 7th grade.  The winter break is the best time to update you child’s immunization and provide documentation to the school health office when we open in January. 
  • Attention bus riders, Tuesday, December 15th and Friday, December 18th are early dismissal days with an early bus schedule. 
  • Lastly, there will be no school December 21 through January 8, 2016 for Winter Recess.  School will resume on January 11, 2016.

  • Family Fun Night is on Tuesday, November 17th from 3-5 pm! Immediately after the Fun will be an IPad information meeting from 5-6 pm in the Auditorium.  Please come to learn how Peary plans to put an IPad in the hand of every student.
